Local 372 Next Wave Mission Statement
We believe Local 372 Next Wave can promote inter-generational understanding between the young and the seasoned. Our inspiration started simply with the conversations we had amongst ourselves at the Next Wave Conference in Atlanta Georgia, including talks we had before the conference and after. Our group in itself was segregated, but we came together with a common cause and left together with the mission of starting a Local 372 Next Wave Committee.
We believe the generation gap should be one common association which is essential to our growth. It all relates to generational segregation, the social structuring of age among generations.
We have to get rid of the isolated, socially constructed division according to chronological age. We have to develop a strong bond between the generations. We cannot let the difference in age or difference in time separate us; it will only lead to discrimination.
We believe that Social support network within the Unions, Locals and Society is weak because the connections between the young and the seasoned is very lack.
We believe re-engagement starts with the family first, then the Community, then society as a whole. We need programs that will close the gap through common interests. It’s not about passing the torch or relinquishing responsibilities. It’s about listening, engaging and supporting us, the younger generation to bring ideas and to prepare for possible leadership roles. It’s about Inspiring Activism and social change. Corroborating constructive discourse and practice within the Union sector to endorse values, fairness, equity and sustainability.
Our role is to strengthen the ability to connect the vision and mission to practice. It’s about bringing energy to continue the growth and to develop new techniques of movement building.
We as Local 372 Next Wavers have the confidence that we can both learn a great deal from the seasoned members who have been in the struggle for years, and continue to fight for Social Justice.
